MASHATU
THE LAND OF GIANTS AND PREDATORS
Mashatu is a place that keeps drawing photographers back. From its famous elephant herds and thriving predator populations to its dramatic landscapes and golden light, it offers some of the finest wildlife photography opportunities in southern Africa.
Mashatu Game Reserve is a sprawling, conservation focused wilderness oasis, home to a remarkable diversity of African wildlife. Situated just inside Botswana’s border, Mashatu offers a spectacular wildlife experience and is the perfect destination for an unforgettable photographic safari.
Join Bobby-Jo Safaris on a journey to capture stunning images of Africa’s wildlife, from giant elephants and powerful predators to the smaller moments that make every safari unique.

At Mashatu, photography is at the heart of the safari experience. We’ll spend time at the famous photographic hide, where elephants and other wildlife can be photographed from a unique eye level perspective, creating opportunities for truly memorable images.
Mashatu is also renowned for its leopard sightings, making it one of the best places in Africa to photograph these elusive predators. Combined with the reserve’s impressive elephant herds and diverse wildlife, it offers an exceptional photographic safari experience.
Our expert guides will take us through Mashatu’s riverbeds and open landscapes in search of elephants, leopards, cheetahs and other wildlife. Along the way, we’ll experience the beauty of the reserve’s iconic trees, dramatic scenery and unforgettable African sunsets.
One of the highlights of the safari is spending time in Mashatu’s overnight hide, where wildlife can be observed and photographed from a unique perspective as animals visit the waterhole throughout the day and night.
After dark, we head out on night drives in search of the reserve’s fascinating nocturnal wildlife. Genets, porcupines, aardwolf, brown hyaena and other elusive species may all make an appearance under the African night sky.

Join Bobby-Jo Safaris and experience the wildlife, landscapes and photographic opportunities that make Mashatu such a special place. From close encounters at the hides to unforgettable moments on safari, every day offers something different.

“Mashatu Never Disappoints”
“I absolutely love travelling with Bobby-Jo; her enthusiasm is truly infectious!
I could drive through a wetland on my own, but without Bobby-Jo, it just wouldn’t be the same. I often find myself wishing for that same level of excitement in my travels all the time, if only that were possible!
Mashatu is a fantastic destination for those of us aged 50 and above; the animals come right to you while you patiently wait at the hide, so you really get the best of both worlds. Whether you’re enjoying the calm at the hide or venturing out on a game drive, it’s a remarkable experience. The property is wonderfully diverse, featuring everything from palm trees to rocky outcrops, and I’m always amazed to discover new areas each time I visit.”
